The reason I love to blog is because I love putting my thoughts on paper. Nowadays, the scourge of absentmindedness has left me a bit verbally vague, so I write things down instead. I like to laugh at my mishaps. Is that not what dottery old mothers (and grans) are all about?

I've caught a bug!

Yes it's true, I've caught a bug. The Ebay bug. (I'm a bit of a late developer!)

It is such a delightful pastime. I can't explain the feelings of excitment I get, waiting for the post to arrive with my latest parcel. I only spend a few pounds at a time, on craft supplies, so it's not a major drain on my finances. But is that how it starts? What will I be looking to purchase next? Surely not that classic, racing green, S-type jag, I've always had an notion for? I wish!!

One humugous downside to trolling Ebay, it is soo... time consuming. I can't get on with anything else for scrolling through pages upon pages of bargains!

Stumbled again

It looks like my story, The tale of the embarassing medical examination, has hit a new high on Stumbled Upon. The renewed interest has added a few pence to my income.

Yes, that title has really sold it's self, although the absence of any 'I liked it's' or comments indicate, it may not have been quite what the viewers where looking for!

Where is that missing word?

I keep misplacing something, well quite a number of things really.

Up till recently, I've lived my life in my usual scatterbrained fashion and when I say scatterbrained I don't mean slightly airy fairy, I'm talking about the dim witted and bemused variety of muddled brain function, particular to a woman of my age.

If it wasn't for the handy little thesaurus and synonyms function on this computer, you wouldn't get a coherent word from me.

No, writing isn't much of a problem, (but obviously, I'll let you be the judge of that!) my major headache is the skill of holding a normal, everyday conversation. My attempts consist of lots of broken sentences and phrases and plenty of blank stares as I rake my empty brain for that missing word.

Forgetting words is a particular talent of mine, unusual in a writer, don't you think? My family used to finish my sentences for me, but now even they are struggling. Have they lost the skill or have I just got worse?

Helium and my new short story.

After a bit of work, my short story, There's no one quite like Grandma, is now published on Helium. The link is on the right if you would like to read it.

If you have ever wondered how to deal with those pesky sales people? Grandma has the answer!

I had a lot of fun writing it. Although she is a fictional wee old lady, Maybe that will be me in 15+ years from now! I hope so.

I joined Helium on Fresh writing's recomendation. Sorry Chris for not contacting you for advice on how to enrol! (Us old people, what are we like?!! just no patience.)

So I submitted to Helium but, silly me, I forgot to check if I could post on triond first (although I'm still not even sure that's allowed?)

Helium looked quite promising at first glance, they give a cash incentive to new members to get them started and start to pay money for your articles if you meet monthly targets and get good reviews. Unfortunately it seems the same rules don't apply to creative writers. It doesn't look like I'll make much money with my short stories anywhere on the net.

Nevermind, one plus point, it seems my article went to number one in its category, even if it was one of 3!

Reddit worked for me! Well almost.

As I said before, I haven't quite got the hang of this promoting you writing business, but I got a tip from another writer in Triond, who said she had success by posting on http://www.reddit.com/.

So last night I posted my short fiction piece, The tale of the embarrasing medical examination http://www.authspot.com/Short-Stories/The-Tale-of-the-Embarrassing-Medical-Examination.322511.

Low and behold, the hits started to come in fast and furious. After just 30 minutes I had received over 500 views. Okay, I knew that most of the readers probably were expecting different content from the chick lit ditty I had written, but still each view was money in the bank for me.

Getting carried away, I did a quick calculation and estimated somewhere in the region of 12000 views over 24hours. Great, I would be starting to earn real money.

I couldn't wait for this morning to come, so I could check out the figures. It pays not to get carried away. This mad influx of hits stopped just as suddenly as it started. So much for making my fortune.

And it seemed that my burst of popularity acually came from http://www.stumbleupon.com/ with only a few views from Reddit.

So thanks once again to Resounding Glass for promoting my work. I owe you one

I joined Facebook.

To be truthful I joined Facebook a while ago, probably when I started this blog the first time and never got around to posting anything. (the blog and Facebook)

I was remindered of my account when my husband sent me an e-mail requesting to be my friend. He really goes to great lengths to communicate with me, doesn't he?

So now I've got one friend on Facebook and he's with me every night to talk to me in the flesh!

I got a lovely message from a friend on the Triond site today.

Triond is a site which enables you to post you articles, creative work, stories, poems etc and videos, pictures and audio. You get a percentage of the viewing revenue. (which doesn't work out to be much, if you're like me and only post a handful of articles,then leave the viewing to chance.) The idea is to promote your work and supply plenty of content. Anyway back to the lovely message. A fellow writer Resounding Glass wrote to me to say he had set up a blog to showcase the works of developing writers and honoured me by adding one of my flash fiction stories. I am so made up.
